Culinary Adventures > Garlic Ginger Tonic for Colds

I’ve been sick for a couple weeks now which is highly unusual for me and this sore throat seems to be taking forever to go away. I’ve been doing all the self-care things I should be doing for a cold and have been trying things that others have suggested to me—salt water gargle, clove gargle, apple cider vinegar gargle. Needless to say, I’ve been gargling a lot.

A friend suggested this Garlic Ginger Tonic to me and swears by it to kick colds fast. I figured, why not? It didn’t sound that appealing but it sure sounded effective. Lots of garlic and ginger with lemon and cayenne. Honey is optional and I did add that as it made it taste—I dare say—delightful. Plus I could use some more honey action on my sore throat.

The drink is beautiful in appearance and the taste is spicy from the ginger. I don’t really notice the garlic taste too much as it’s surprisingly very subtle. I didn’t have a fresh lemon on hand so I used my favorite Organic Volcano Lemon Juice.

Drinking this tonic, I can feel it permeate throughout my neck, ears and sinuses. It feels like it’s doing something. I’m really shocked that I it actually tastes good!
